Wickenburg, AZ

Wickenburg Ranch

High-desert golf in a real cowboy town — the under-the-radar Arizona trip.

dude-ranch-townhigh-desertshort-course-nightsunder-the-radar

The place

Wickenburg is old Arizona — a working cowboy town of saddle shops and saloons in the high desert northwest of Phoenix — and Wickenburg Ranch is its modern golf calling card. The Big Wick course rolls through boulder-piled hills with far fewer homes and far more quiet than the valley's resort corridors, and Li'l Wick, its lit short course, keeps the matches running after dark with drinks in hand. Down the road, the storied Rancho de los Caballeros guest ranch pairs its own golf with horseback rides and skeet. It is the trip for crews who have done Scottsdale and want the desert to themselves.

Where you crash

The resort

Rancho de los Caballeros

A storied guest ranch on 20,000 acres — hacienda rooms, horseback mornings, skeet afternoons and its own golf course out the door.

◆ The private house

The Private House

A rental home inside the Wickenburg Ranch community — casita guest rooms, a view deck over the high desert, and cart access toward the golf. Inventory is thinner than the big resort towns, so book early.

Why it wins

An hour past the Phoenix sprawl, Wickenburg trades crowds for elbow room: a celebrated modern course with a lit par-3 loop for night matches, a genuine dude-ranch town for the evenings, and rates that undercut Scottsdale across the board.

Booking notes

Big Wick tee times run through the club's public windows — have the concierge confirm current visitor access and rates, which shift seasonally. Rancho de los Caballeros packages bundle golf, meals and ranch activities; fly into Phoenix.
