San Antonio, TX

TPC San Antonio

The Valero Texas Open's stage plus San Antonio's historic golf — Hill Country meets River Walk.

The place

TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course, the Greg Norman design that hosts the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open, anchors this trip from inside the JW Marriott Hill Country resort — a self-contained base with pools, a lazy river and tee times attached to the stay. The supporting lineup is what makes it a week: The Quarry's famous back nine plays through the walls of an old cement quarry, and Brackenridge Park, the A.W. Tillinghast muni downtown, is a living piece of Texas golf history. Evenings belong to the River Walk, the Pearl district and serious Tex-Mex.

Where you crash

The resort

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

The sprawling resort attached to TPC San Antonio — pools, a lazy river, multiple restaurants and the Oaks Course out the back.

◆ The private house

The Private House

A Hill Country house north of the city — pool, outdoor kitchen and long-view sunsets, with the TPC gates and downtown each about twenty-five minutes away.

5-6 BR · sleeps 10-12 · ~$500–$1,800/nt

The 5-day plan

  1. 1

    Arrive & the River Walk

AM Fly into San Antonio — the resort is half an hour north.

PM Check in, pool hour, then a River Walk dinner and a walk past the Alamo.

  2. 2

    Brackenridge Park

AM The Tillinghast muni to open the week with history underfoot.

PM Pearl district afternoon — breweries and food halls; Tex-Mex dinner.

  3. 3

    The Quarry

AM The quarry-floor back nine everyone will talk about at dinner.

PM Lazy river and spa; barbecue night at the house or resort.

  4. 4

    Oaks Course — the Cup

AM The team match on the Valero venue — Tour tees optional, humility recommended.

PM Trophy steaks, cigars on the terrace, one last River Walk lap.

  5. 5

    Breakfast tacos & home

AM A proper breakfast-taco send-off, then the short run to the airport.

Why it wins

Play the same Oaks Course the PGA Tour plays every spring, then round out the week with San Antonio's cult-favorite Quarry and the historic muni where Texas tournament golf was born — with River Walk dinners between.

Booking notes

Oaks Course access runs smoothest through a JW Marriott stay-and-play package — book the marquee round first. Avoid Valero Texas Open week in spring unless the plan is to spectate.
