Meadows of Dan, VA

Primland & the Blue Ridge

Golf on top of the world — Donald Steel's Highland Course across a 12,000-acre mountain estate.

The place

Primland is a 12,000-acre estate strung along the Blue Ridge escarpment, and its Highland Course — laid out by British architect Donald Steel — plays across the top of it, with fairways running to the rim of the Dan River Gorge and views that stop mid-swing conversation. The lodge is Auberge-run mountain luxury with an observatory dome in the roof for after-dark stargazing, plus sporting clays, fly fishing and tree-house suites cantilevered over the ridge. One great course, endless estate — the retreat pick of the list.

One of the most dramatic courses in the East — fairways along the rim of the Dan River Gorge — on a 12,000-acre Blue Ridge estate with tree-house suites and its own observatory. The trip that feels farthest from everything.

Booking notes

Book golf, clays and the observatory session as one itinerary — activity slots fill on fall weekends. Ask the concierge about area day-trip rounds if the crew wants a second course.
