Callaway Resort & Gardens

Golf inside a famous garden resort — azaleas, lakes and easy-going Pine Mountain classic.

The place

Callaway is the garden resort generations of Southerners grew up visiting — thousands of acres of azaleas, woodlands and lakes at the foot of Pine Mountain — and its golf soaks up the setting, with fairways framed by the same blooms that made the gardens famous. The Mountain View course carries real tournament history as the longtime host of the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge, and the resort fills every non-golf hour: the butterfly center, lake beaches, biking trails and the raptor show. Cabins and cottages in the pines make the crew's evenings easy.

Why it wins

A beloved garden resort where the golf winds through azaleas and lakes, cabins keep the crew together in the woods, and the whole trip runs at a gentler tempo and price. The low-stress classic of the list.

Booking notes

Book golf and lodging together and have the concierge confirm the current course lineup — the resort has evolved its golf offerings in recent years, including Mountain View's availability. Azalea season in early spring is the showstopper.
