The Broadmoor

Five-star mountain golf at America's grande dame — thin air, big drives, pink-sky dinners.

The place

The Broadmoor has been the West's grande dame since 1918 — a lakeside five-star spread beneath Cheyenne Mountain with a golf pedigree to match the chandeliers. The East Course, with Donald Ross roots, is where a young Jack Nicklaus won the 1959 U.S. Amateur, and it has hosted U.S. Women's Opens and Senior Opens since; the West Course climbs higher along the mountainside with even bigger views. At 6,000-plus feet the ball flies, the evenings cool off perfectly, and the resort's restaurants, bars and lake-path sunsets close every day in style.

◆ The private house

The Private House

A large house in the Broadmoor neighborhood or the Cheyenne Mountain foothills — mountain views off the deck, a firepit for altitude-cooled evenings, and the resort gates minutes away.

Why it wins

A century-old five-star resort at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, with championship golf where Jack Nicklaus won his first U.S. Amateur — and the altitude adds twenty yards to every drive. The Rockies trip that never roughs it.

Booking notes

Golf is reserved for resort guests and members — book rooms and tee times together, well ahead for summer. Build in a Seven Falls or Pikes Peak outing, and let the concierge sort the dinner rotation on property.
